Freedom Birders is the outdoor education program of Amplify the Future, Inc.
Freedom Birders, founded by Tykee James and Jeffrey Train, is a racial justice and bird education project inspired by the Civil Rights Movement and Black Birders Week. It aims to:
Phase I
Expand its impact via comprehensive racial justice and bird education dialogues, across the United States to broaden outreach and gain project support.
Phase II
Host a multi-day, multi-state birding event from Washington, D.C. to New Orleans, LA, demonstrating the concept of Freedom Birding.
Phase III
Develop a guide for outdoor campaigns, incorporating lessons from the Civil Rights movement, Black Birders Week, and the 1619 project.
